Fulcrum Point New Music Project champions new classical music and highlights contemporary composers who are inspired and influenced by popular culture, including literature, film, dance, folk, rock, jazz, blues, Latin and world music. Through multi-disciplinary concert performances and educational programs Fulcrum Point seeks to explore the marriage of classical music and popular culture. The concerts are designed to encourage audiences to make cross-cultural connections and gain greater insight into today’s diverse world.

In 1998, acclaimed musician, conductor, and music educator Stephen Burns was invited by Performing Arts Chicago to create a series of innovative new music programs. From that auspicious beginning Fulcrum Point was created and grown into a critically acclaimed ensemble performing contemporary classical music in a variety of venues in the Chicago area. In the past seven seasons Fulcrum Point has presented numerous performances with settings as diverse as the Field Museum, Old St. Pat’s, the National Museum for Mexican Art, Ravinia Festival, Hot House and the Harris Theater of Music and Dance, where the orchestra is a resident company member.
