G. W. Peoples Contracting Co., Inc. (GWP) is the only nation-wide African-American owned railroad construction contractor in the U.S.   Certified DBE/MBE/SBE/NMSDC in 40 separate jurisdictions, GWP specializes in all elements of heavy and light, railroad and transit track construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, repair and supplies.

GWP provides high quality rail construction services with a priority on safety. Our management team has established excellent reputations in rail, having 350 years of experience in the railroad and construction industries, as well as having strong backgrounds in business, law, project management, finance and administration.  Our technical expertise extends across the entire scope of rail operations from light and heavy rail transit to commuter rail and freight haul.

G. W. Peoples' Chairman/CEO Melvin E. Clark, Jr. has made a long-standing  pledge to ensure that our workforce reflects the demographics of the communities that the transit system serves.  GWP has worked and is continuing to work with Urban Leagues and other community organizations and churches and currently over 65% of the GWP workforce is minority, women and veterans.

The company currently operates from three locations: its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia and regional offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Chicago, IL.  We have successfully participated in design/build projects across the nation, from New Jersey to California, and we have the resources available to undertake several projects simultaneously.
