It serves South Florida's culturally diverse communities by presenting bold productions designed to foster conversation and connection among audiences. The company traces its origins to Florida Shakespeare Theatre, founded by two Coral Gables-based friends, and relocated in 1998 to the historic Biltmore Hotel, where it adopted its current name. Its programming targets audiences seeking theatre that reflects today’s ideas and challenges perspectives, contributing to the region’s cultural life with thought-provoking works. In 2026, GableStage named Juan José Escalante as executive director, and the organization has earned multiple Carbonell Awards and other regional honors recognizing its productions and programming.
