University of North Georgia (UNG) is a regional public higher-education institution serving northeast Georgia, operating multiple campuses including a Blue Ridge campus added in 2015. The institution was created in 2013 through the consolidation of Gainesville State College (founded 1964 in Gainesville) and North Georgia College & State University (founded 1873 in Dahlonega). As one of six federally designated senior military colleges, UNG hosts the Army ROTC program and is designated The Military College of Georgia, while also being recognized by the University System of Georgia as a State Leadership Institution and holding the Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. UNG provides a continuum of educational pathways from associate degrees to graduate programs to prepare students for leadership roles in a diverse, global society. Its operations are based in Gainesville, Georgia, with campuses across northeast Georgia, and it serves regional learners and communities while pursuing developments such as plans to launch an agricultural education degree at the Gainesville campus in 2026.
