Garden Partners believes that connection with the earth, through the organic process of working in gardens, unequivocally helps all who participate. We also find that health and well-being of seniors with dementia, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and at-risk youth are often neglected. To address these issues and actively engage the community, Garden Partners is launching an initiative to establish an urban farm, centrally located within Portland, Oregon. The focus will be to utilize therapeutic horticulture, occupational therapy and urban farming techniques, in programs that are year-round and accessible by all. Imagine... a thriving farm, located within the City - carefully designed for use by people of all ages and abilities - inside spaces for interactive horticulture sessions, educational films and lectures; a restaurant that sources locally grown ingredients... outside, three participatory garden areas for learning and reaping of the edible harvest; a small barnyard houses goats, chickens and bees, those happy teachers and suppliers of food...
