Gaston Day School is a nonsectarian, college-preparatory day school serving Preschool through 12th grade in Gastonia, North Carolina, founded in 1967. It enrolls about 500 students and relies on a sizable faculty and staff to deliver a broad, college-focused program. The school draws students from five counties—Gaston, Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Cleveland, and York—and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; it is a member of several independent-school associations and approved by the North Carolina Department of Education. Academic outcomes reflect a strong emphasis on preparation, with upper grades achieving high performance on standardized assessments, including some of the county’s strongest SAT results and an AP pass rate above 80 percent. The writing and fine arts programs receive regional and national recognition, and athletics and the arts are integral to a well-rounded education. In 2024, the school was named a finalist in the Globetrotters and Jersey Mike’s Elementary School Creativity Contest.
