Genethon is a not-for-profit biotechnology research laboratory based in Évry-Courcouronnes, Île-de-France, focused on developing gene therapies for rare diseases. Founded in 1990 with support from AFM-Téléthon, the organization has contributed to deciphering the human genome and identifying disease-causing genes, and its current mission is to design and advance gene therapy treatments for conditions such as neuromuscular disorders, immune deficiencies, and diseases affecting blood, liver, or vision. In February 2026, Genethon announced the appointment of Klaudia Kuranda to lead an immunology-focused center established in collaboration with the Institute of Myology. The institution operates at a biotherapeutics hub that integrates academic research, technological innovation, and engagement with patient communities, bringing together a diverse team of researchers, clinicians, pharmacists, engineers, and lab technicians. Its work is oriented toward delivering gene therapy solutions for rare diseases through collaborations with clinicians and industry partners to translate scientific advances into potential therapies.
