Gentec Electro-Optics (Gentec-EO) is a Quebec, Canada–based manufacturer of measuring and control instruments specializing in laser power and energy measurement for laboratory, hospital, and industrial applications. The company employs between 51 and 200 people and traces a 50-year history in laser measurement to Gentec, Inc., which developed early laser energy measurement products in the 1970s and pioneered thermopile and pyroelectric detectors. In 2000 Gentec Electro-Optics, Inc. was formed from Gentec, Inc. to focus on thermal laser power and energy measurement, and in 2010 Gentec-EO acquired Spectrum Detector Inc., expanding into THz measurement, ultra-sensitive joulemeters, fast pulse-to-pulse energy measurements up to 200 kHz, and Optical TRAP detectors as primary calibration standards.
