Georgia Highlands College is a multi-campus state college member of the University System of Georgia, serving higher education needs across Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, it now operates five campuses in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, Dallas, and Douglasville, offering more than 40 areas of study across associate, bachelor's, and online degree options. The institution emphasizes accessibility and affordability, positioning a GHC degree as a cost-conscious alternative where students take the same introductory coursework as at other four-year institutions for a lower price. It is accredited and supports programs that include adult degree completion, research opportunities, study abroad, and honors opportunities, aiming to maintain one of the higher retention rates in its sector. Recent developments include campus initiatives and program expansions, such as new career-focused offerings, while the college maintains a commitment to serving military personnel as a designated military-friendly institution.
