Georgia Historical Society (GHS) is an independent statewide educational and research organization focused on collecting, interpreting, and teaching Georgia history. It houses what is described as the oldest and most distinguished collection exclusively dedicated to Georgia history in the United States. The society advances Georgia history through educational programs, scholarly publications, and research services. Chartered by the Georgia General Assembly in 1839, it is the oldest continuously operated historical society in the South, with headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, an office in Atlanta, Georgia, and a broad network of members and affiliates across 80 counties. Its activities include publishing the Georgia Historical Quarterly, managing the state's Historical Marker Program, producing Today in Georgia History with Georgia Public Broadcasting, and organizing the Georgia History Festival for K-12 education; in May 2026, GHS partnered with Baldwin County to dedicate a marker.
