Georgia Innocence Project is an independent nonprofit legal organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, dedicated to freeing people who were wrongfully convicted and to addressing the causes and consequences of wrongful imprisonment. It conducts investigations and litigation to exonerate individuals and provides reentry and recovery support to those released. Through education and policy reform efforts, it works to prevent wrongful convictions and to repair systemic errors. In partnership with parts of the criminal justice system, the organization has collaborated with the Chatham County District Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit to develop methods for screening cases that claim wrongful conviction. It has helped free and exonerate individuals who together spent about 300 years in prison. In January 2025, Kristin Verrill was appointed Executive Director.
