The German Aerospace Center (DLR) serves as Germany's national research and technology center for aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and defence. It operates through a network of institutes and facilities to develop solutions and innovations that benefit industry, government, and the public sector, with a focus on knowledge sharing and targeted technology transfer. Based in Köln, North Rhine-Westphalia, DLR also houses the German Space Agency, which plans and implements German space activities on behalf of the federal government, and two project management agencies that oversee research and industrial funding programmes. Its work addresses climate change, mobility, and technology challenges by applying expertise across atmospheric and space research, solar technology, traffic management, environmental monitoring, and related fields, with customers including industry, government agencies, and the public sector. In June 2026, DLR renewed its framework cooperation with ArianeGroup, reflecting ongoing partnerships that support its research and space activities.
