Global Automakers is a trade association that represents the U.S. divisions of international motor vehicle manufacturers active in the United States. Based in the District of Columbia, it engages with policymakers in Washington, D.C. and in state capitals to advocate on issues affecting the industry. The organization pursues a collaborative approach with industry leaders, legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders to promote public policy that supports vehicle safety, technological innovation, and environmental protection while maintaining a competitive market that encourages investment and jobs. Founded in 1961, the association has operated under various names and today represents the U.S. operations of a dozen motor vehicle manufacturers. In 2020, Global Automakers merged with Auto Alliance, broadening its representation to include additional manufacturers. With a small, focused staff, the organization functions as the voice for its members in policy discussions.
