Global Volunteers operates as a private, non-profit, non-sectarian NGO that mobilizes short-term volunteers for micro-economic and human development initiatives in partnership with local communities worldwide. Volunteers work with the invitation and guidance of local leaders on projects across education, childcare, medical care, community development, and construction, typically for one to three weeks. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, Global Volunteers has supported more than 35,000 participants since its founding in 1984. Its programs span locations including China, the Cook Islands, Cuba, Ecuador, Greece, Italy, Nepal, Peru, Poland, Portugal, St. Lucia, Tanzania, the United States, and Vietnam. In November 2022, the organization launched the Reaching Children’s Potential Program to support health and hygiene education in Ventanilla, Peru.
