Glyndebourne is a performing arts organization based in Glynde, East Sussex, England, internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading opera houses. It originated with the Glyndebourne Festival, founded in 1934 by John Christie and his wife Audrey Mildmay. The company operates an annual summer Festival that runs for 15 weeks from May to August, presenting more than 70 world-class opera performances in a 1,250-seat opera house. It also runs an expanded Autumn Season offering affordable access and a focus on emerging talent, with subsidised Festival tickets for families, under-30s and under-40s. Glyndebourne is a registered charity that has remained financially independent since its founding, funded by Box Office income, Members and supporters, with Arts Council England support for learning and engagement work. It employs between 201 and 500 staff.
