The Grand Prairie Independent School District is the largest employer in Grand Prairie with approximately 3,372 staff members. More than 2,100 of those are instructional staff. GPISD is a 58-square mile district serving approximately 26,000 students within the Dallas County portion of Grand Prairie. The District boasts 39 campuses, including 25 elementary schools, seven middle schools, two ninth-grade centers, three high schools and two alternative education schools. The District has a diverse student population with 63.1 percent Hispanic students, 17.6 percent black students, 15.1 percent white students, 3.7 percent Asian students, and .5 percent American Indian students. Voted into existence on July 5, 1902, the District had the distinction of celebrating its 100-year anniversary during the 2002-2003 school year.
