Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City is a community hospital serving Western Oklahoma as a public, not-for-profit health system. The 62-bed facility is Joint Commission accredited and offers a full continuum of care ranging from acute services to intensive care. The center supports a broad set of services and reports annual activity including more than 14,000 emergency department visits, over 300 births, and more than 3,500 surgical cases. It has deep historical roots in Western Oklahoma, arising from a formative effort by a local physician and community members. In October 2024, the center announced the launch of TeamBirth, an initiative intended to improve the birthing experience. It has also engaged in partnerships to advance clinical education, including a collaboration with SWOSU Foundation to establish a Surgical Technology program in Fall 2024.
