The Great Valley Center is a non-profit organization in partnership with the University of California, Merced, working to support the Central Valley’s communities as they solve the region’s very serious social, economic and environmental challenges. Through publications, conferences, workshops, coordination of regional projects, and an array of innovative programs, the Great Valley Center works to raise awareness of the region’s needs and assets; bring people together to participate in community discussions; and build capacity with leadership development and technical assistance. The Valley’s cities and towns face a long list of concerns from high unemployment to poor schools to dirty air. However, GVC is not a surrogate problem solver for local communities. GVC works instead as a collaborative partner by convening those with a range of views, while keeping a non-partisan, neutral stance. Founded in 1997, GVC is based in Modesto, California, with satellite offices in Chico and Bakersfield, and relies on the support of individuals, foundations and corporations concerned about the Valley’s future.
