The mission of the Greater Columbus Indiana Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is to build a world-class community by enhancing the quality of life and economic opportunity of the residents of Columbus and Bartholomew County, Indiana.  The strategic goal of the organization is to grow & attract well-paying, high value-added, community-minded primary businesses by influencing and leveraging the area's distinct capabilities in advanced manufacturing, design, and STEM education.  Greater Columbus Indiana EDC reaches this goal by ensuring the growth of existing primary businesses, attracting ideal new businesses, and building & improving the community's desirability to businesses and residents.

Columbus, Indiana, and the surrounding region has particular employment strengths in the design and manufacture of machinery & engines, automotive equipment, fabricated metals, plastics, and other design-intensive advanced manufacturing industries, along with noted strengths in Management of Companies.  The EDC focuses on supporting the expansion of existing companies in these and other sectors, while also targeting the recruitment of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Engineering/R&D Services, Aerospace Manufacturers, and other targeted industries.

As home to the global headquarters of Cummins, Inc., and numerous international firms, Columbus, Indiana, has also distinguished itself as a preferred U.S. destination for both domestic and foreign direct investment.
