Greater West Town Project (GWTP) is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization focused on expanding educational and economic opportunities for residents in the Greater West Town area, including Humboldt Park, East and West Garfield Park, North Lawndale, and Austin. Founded in 1988, GWTP operates through three divisions—West Town Academy, Vocational Training, and Jobs Placement Services—offering no-cost programs that address unemployment, poverty, and barriers to education and training. The organization provides an alternative high school, certificate-granting vocational programs in woodworking and solid surface manufacturing as well as shipping and receiving, and holistic career development with placement and post-placement supports, serving a broad community of young people, job seekers, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Since its inception, GWTP has established on-the-job training with local employers, helped thousands of residents into sustainable employment, and delivered education and employment services to thousands of high school students and others in need. A recent development noted in news reports is GWTP's acquisition of YCCS West in mid-2024, reflecting expansion of its local footprint and services.
