Green Building Initiative (GBI) is a nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon that works to reduce the climate and social footprint of the built environment. It operates globally as the provider of Green Globes, a building certification framework that assesses sustainability, health and wellness, and resilience. GBI is also an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer and administers the Guiding Principles Compliance verification program, the first third-party assessment designed specifically for federal building sustainability requirements.

In 2026, GBI expanded collaborations with industry groups to advance decarbonization of digital infrastructure and the broader built environment. That year also saw a leadership transition, with Stephen T. Ayers appointed as Interim CEO following the departure of the prior chief executive.
