Green Hills AEA is one of Iowa's nine intermediate education agencies, serving the southwest portion of the state from a main office in Council Bluffs. It coordinates educational services for 52 public and non-public school districts, supporting administrators, teachers, students, and families. The agency's staff encompasses school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, special education consultants, educational audiologists, early childhood consultants, and teachers along with subject-area consultants. 

Its operations are anchored in Council Bluffs, with regional offices in Avoca, Creston, Council Bluffs, Glenwood, Missouri Valley, Osceola, and Red Oak. The organization maintains an online presence where open employment positions are posted, including the statewide Teach Iowa site. In November 2021, Green Hills AEA partnered with Career EdVantage and Lewis Central High School to offer a paid internship within its operations department.
