In 1968, Raymond Grenald, a practicing Architect, grew interested in addressing people’s perception of architectural space through the use of light. This vision prompted the founding of Raymond Grenald Associates. Ray was one of the pioneers who lead the way in the specialization of architectural lighting design as a profession. Lee Waldron, with a background in theatre, film and television lighting, joined Ray in 1976 and helped to foster a public appreciation of good lighting design. In 1994, our firm became Grenald Waldron Associates. And in 2003, GWA formed a new management team to prepare for our future growth.  Current office locations include Shanghai and Beirut in addition to our home office near Philadelphia.

Over the years, our firm has increased its prominence within the lighting community and added experienced lighting designers with diverse backgrounds from architecture, engineering, entertainment and interior design. We are proud recipients of numerous awards for projects throughout the world, including two Presidential Awards for Design Excellence. GWA remains an influential force in the lighting industry. Our mission is to strengthen GWA’s service to a marketplace that understands the value of quality lighting.
