The Grower-Shipper Association of Central California is an association that brings together shippers and handlers of vegetables in the Salinas, Watsonville, and Hollister districts, along with receivers and handlers in other parts of the United States, to foster cooperation and address industry needs. Since its founding in 1930, it has grown from iceberg lettuce origins to represent more than 300 member companies across four Central Coast counties, spanning a wide range of commodities including vegetables, berries, mushrooms and wine grapes. Based in Salinas, California, the organization operates within the food and beverage manufacturing sector and provides programs and services on issues ranging from food safety and security to pest and plant disease prevention, land and water use, market access, trade, research and education, government affairs, and worker safety and employment law. A notable development in recent years was the launch of its INSV Task Force in 2021 to identify and respond to INSV pressures and accelerate mitigation research.
