Gylen Castle (pronounced "gAH-lynn"​) is a stronghold and functional castle on the southern part of the Island of Kerrera in Scotland. Built in 1582 by the Clan MacDougall, the castle was carefully located on a nearly impregnable sea cliff using some of the best innovation strategies of the time. Clan MacDougall was active in the Crusades as well as fighting alongside William Wallace, the real life hero of the Mel Gibson movie, Braveheart.
