H2L2 Architects/Planners is an international, Philadelphia-based limited liability company (LLC) focusing on architecture, planning, interior design and infrastructure. H2L2 was founded in 1907 as the office of master architect-educator Paul Philippe Cret. Cret served as the head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania for over 30 years, and designed such projects as The Rodin Museum in Philadelphia, the master plan for the University of Texas in Austin and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia. After Cret’s death in 1945, his four partners assumed the practice under the partnership Harbeson Hough Livingston & Larson, which for years was referred to by staff members as “H2L2”. The firm officially adopted this “nickname” as its formal title in 1976. Over the years, H2L2 continued to grow and develop its four areas of practice: Architecture, Planning, Interior Design, and Infrastructure. Our office in New York City was established in 1998, our office in Boca Raton, FL was established in 2007 and the growing international markets initiated branch offices in Cairo, Paris, and Shanghai. Building on a solid North American reputation, the firm has successfully completed numerous commissions worldwide, including projects in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Central and South America. At H2L2, the design process is guided by our rich history and the understanding that each project must address the specific needs and desires of our diverse clients. This philosophy has enabled us to create structures and spaces that are informed by our experience, shaped by our talented staff and valued by our clients. The H2L2 Firm Profile which accompanies this history provides an overview of our design services and a representative list of clients. H2L2 has the experience, talent and staff necessary to meet any design challenge while approaching the process collaboratively to meet our clients’ changing needs.
