Founded in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, based in Salisbury, Maryland. Its mission centers on eliminating substandard housing by providing simple, decent homes and a hand-up through sweat equity and a 30-year, low-interest mortgage for families in need. Since its founding, the organization has helped more than 90 families achieve affordable homeownership, supported by around 700 volunteers each year who work with partner families. Funding comes from two ReStore thrift shops, mortgage repayments, and charitable donations and grants. Properties are acquired through donations, landowner purchases, or government arrangements, and construction relies on volunteers alongside Habitat Partner Families, with 126 repairs completed since 2013. A 2024 report notes the opening of a new store in Fruitland.
