Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley provides a path for a better life through safe and affordable homes. Habitat homeowners strengthen the fabric of our community; owning a home is the greatest single source of intergenerational wealth building. In 1995, Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties was founded. Even then land in Eagle County was hard to come by. Nearly 30 years later, the need for affordable homes is greater than ever. Habitat homeowners are educators, law enforcement officers, tradespeople, healthcare, grocery store and resort employees who make Eagle County a vibrant place to live. The level of need in our community for affordable housing is greater than we have seen before. In communities where workforce housing was already scarce, the influx of remote workers pushed homeownership further out of the reach of our local workforce, decimating available stock. To meet the growing need, we have committed to this aspirational plan to build 40 affordable, for-sale homes from 2023-2024, a 100% increase from 2020-2022. In 2024, Habitat Vail Valley broke ground on the 128th home and the goal remains the same from our founding: building strength, stability and self-reliance through home. A home is everything: a home positively impacts a family’s well-being, educational outcomes, physical health, and it roots families in the community.
