Hadley is a mid-sized nonprofit based in Winnetka, Illinois, established in 1920 by William Hadley, an educator who later experienced vision loss. It provides free, practical help and social-emotional support to people with visual impairment, as well as resources for their families and the professionals who assist them. Its services are delivered remotely—online, by phone, or through mail—without requiring office visits, and they aim to help individuals adapt to changes in daily tasks and build peer connections. Since a relaunch in July 2020, more than 100,000 people have joined the Hadley community, with satisfaction ratings around 98%. The organization reaches every state in the U.S. and more than 100 countries, and it teaches braille to more learners than any other organization worldwide. Hadley collaborates with the National Eye Institute and the National Eye Health Education Program for its work as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
