half Helen (hH) is an optometry-focused organization based in Lamar, Texas, founded in 2013 to help children see more clearly. It began by running screening programs for vision and hearing and connecting children in need with follow-up care providers. The organization has expanded to operate Optical Prime, a mobile initiative that brings vision care directly to students at their schools. Its work centers on children, especially in communities with limited access to eye care, addressing the high prevalence of vision problems and the consequences of untreated refractive errors on learning. Through a mobile model, half Helen brings comprehensive eye care to schools, and in August 2023 the organization announced the launch of a second mobile clinic to expand access.
