When founder Laurel Barrus couldn't find a portable quilting frame for a trip to her family cabin, she built one herself-light, compact, and adjustable. Friends wanted their own, word spread, and Handi Quilter was born.

The idea proved itself at the 1999 International Quilt Festival, and by 2002 the company had grown from portable frames to reliable, affordable longarm machines designed for real homes and real budgets.
