The Hawaii Health Information Exchange is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2006 by Hawaii health care stakeholders to improve health care delivery through secure health information exchange. In September 2009, the state designated Hawaii HIE to develop and implement a statewide health information exchange that will feed into the national health information network. Based in Honolulu, Hawaii, it operates within the IT services and IT consulting sector and aims to coordinate care, reduce costs, address the needs of the aging population, and encourage proactive patient engagement. Its customers are health care providers in Hawaii who rely on access to patient data to inform treatment decisions, including providers serving Maui. A 2023 development highlights that the organization offers no-cost access to patient data for treatment decisions for Maui patients.
