Hawai'i Island Community Health Center is Hawai'i's largest federally qualified health center, delivering medical, dental, and behavioral health care to diverse communities across Hawai'i Island. In 2022, Bay Clinic and West Hawaiʻi Community Health Center merged operations to form an integrated network focused on quality care and delivering services island-wide while maintaining a commitment to access regardless of ability to pay. Bay Clinic began on the East Side in Hilo in 1983 as the Women’s Health Clinic and gradually expanded to include primary care, pediatrics, dental, mobile clinics, street medicine, WIC, and a pharmacy. West Hawaiʻi Community Health Center started in 2003 and opened in Kailua-Kona in 2005, with growth into behavioral health, pediatrics, dental, street medicine, substance use treatment, and clinical pharmacy across multiple facilities. Based in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i Island Community Health Center now pursues a team-based model with wrap-around services designed to improve patient experience and health outcomes across the island.
