Hawai'i Land Trust (HILT) operates as Hawai'i’s islands-wide land trust, serving as both a 501(c)3 nonprofit and a nationally accredited land trust. Established in 2011 through the merger of four island-based trusts on Maui, O'ahu, the Big Island, and Kaua'i, it is guided by a board representing the major islands and supported by a lean staff. The organization protects land across Hawai'i—having secured more than 22,000 acres through eight community preserves that it owns and steward, 53 conservation easements on private lands protecting agricultural, ecological, and cultural resources, and five facilitated conservation transactions. Its work centers on lands that contribute to Hawai'i's well-being and character, pursued through thoughtful stewardship that strengthens communities' ties to the ʻāina and respects kuleana. HILT partners with private landowners and community stakeholders across Hawaiʻi, protecting lands that host agricultural, ecological, and cultural resources. Headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, the organization emphasizes a stewardship approach that fosters reciprocal relationships with the land and strengthens local connection to place. In 2023, Hawai'i Land Trust named ʻOlu Campbell as president and CEO, marking a shift in leadership while maintaining its island-wide focus.
