In 2006, several community partners joined the Healthy Community Council to conduct a needs assessment. The results of the Healthy Community Council Report showed that significant challenges in accessing health care in the area existed. In 2007, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration designated Harrisonburg, Virginia as having a Medically Underserved Population. From that designation an action committee formed and successfully created the Harrisonburg Community Health Center, Inc. In 2009, HCHC became a non-profit 501(c)3 federally qualified health center, allowing it the support to be a true universal access medical facility. The Harrisonburg Community Health Center brings together an exceptional team of health care providers, a responsive and helpful administrative staff, and a supportive Board of Directors to fulfill our mission of providing comprehensive primary care health services (family medicine for all ages, women's health and prenatal care. dental services, behavioral health, laboratory services, HIV/AIDS care management and more) to anyone in the community regardless of their financial situation.
