Headsprout offers an online adaptive reading program to support early readers, built on a patented online learning system. It targets K–5 learners, guiding them through 80 lessons of about 20 minutes to develop phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The program adapts to each learner's needs and provides automated performance reports and downloadable stories, accessible from any internet-connected computer in schools, homes, or learning centers. The company is based in Seattle, Washington, and was founded in June 1999 by Greg Stikeleather, Drs. Joe Layng, Kent Johnson, and Edward L. Anderson. In 2020, Headsprout was recognized as the Overall Early Childhood Education Solution of the Year in the EdTech Breakthrough Awards.
