Heartland Girls Ranch operates as a working ranch that blends education with therapeutic equine programming to support at-risk female juveniles. Founded in June 1992 and based in Benson, Minnesota, the program employs a strength-based, trauma-informed approach in a safe setting to foster positive change. It provides primary and secondary education alongside equine-assisted activities, with the aim of helping participants heal from past experiences and develop skills for the future. The organization's philosophy centers on recognizing each girl's courage, value, and potential, and on cultivating healthy relationships and ethical leadership.
Target participants are at-risk female youths, and the program operates within the primary and secondary education space, combining academic support with trauma-informed, strength-based therapy and equine activities. In 2018, a press release reported that Cinedigm acquired Heartlandgirlsranch and seasons one through ten of the related television drama Heartland.
