Helping Services for Youth & Families is a private nonprofit in the field of individual and family services that has operated in Northeast Iowa since 1973. It aims to respond to current health and safety needs of youth and families through empowerment, support, and education, organizing its work into four programs: domestic abuse advocacy, family education and support, substance abuse prevention, and youth mentoring. These programs are delivered in collaboration with donors, partner organizations, and volunteers to advance healthier and safer families and communities. The organization targets survivors of domestic violence, as well as diverse families and communities, offering services that help people reach safety, cope with trauma, and strengthen parenting and child development. It also works to prevent the misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and to provide mentoring that helps youth aspire and achieve their potential. Based in Decorah, within Northeast Iowa, the nonprofit engages with local partners and, in early 2023, partnered with Decorah Public Library to offer Zumbini classes for young children and their caregivers.
