Having started its operations in 2000, it is now supported by the GEK TERNA Group, the leader in Energy Production from conventional and renewable (RES) sources in Greece, who also founded HERON.

HERON was the first private Group to operate in the Greek liberalized electricity market, as well as the first Private Group to operate in the Natural Gas market in Greece. 

HERON constructed and has successfully been operating the first private Natural Gas fired power plant in Greece since 2004 (HERON I). Since 2009, HERON also operates a combined cycle thermoelectric power plant in Thiva (HERON II), reaching a total installed capacity of 582 MW.
HERON participates substantially in the National Energy Planning and Programming by using state-of-the-art technology and operating in line with market needs. HERON today is the largest Independent Electricity Supplier in Greece. Thanks to its strong shareholding and production basis, HERON is able to ensure significant and long-term benefits to its customers and partners.
