The Higher Learning Commission is a major U.S. accrediting organization for degree-granting, post-secondary institutions. Founded in 1895 as one of six historically regional accreditors, it is based in Chicago, Illinois and serves roughly one thousand member institutions nationwide. It operates within the higher education sector as the largest accrediting body of its kind in the United States. The commission assesses and accredits member institutions to uphold established standards across higher education. In October 2025, it announced the launch of an endorsement process to help navigate the complex credential marketplace.
