Hockey India serves as the national governing body for field hockey in India, established in May 2009 with the aim of restoring the sport's former prominence. It is the sole organization recognized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Indian Olympic Association, and the International Hockey Federation for governing field hockey at all levels within the country. Based in Jaitpur, Delhi, it coordinates governance, competitions, and development across the sport. It oversees players, coaches, administrators, and the broader hockey community, focusing on coaching education and the development of grassroots programs to strengthen the sport from the ground up. In May 2026, Hockey India expanded its Coaching Education Pathway Programme to Coimbatore and Haridwar, signaling a deeper investment in grassroots coaching infrastructure. Positioned within the spectator sports sector, the federation connects domestic hockey activity with international bodies and governs the sport in India.
