The Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) is a nonprofit based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the legal services sector, focused on meeting the legal and advocacy needs of homeless individuals and families. It relies on a dedicated legal staff and a broad corps of volunteers, including lawyers, paralegals, and law students, to extend its reach. Each year, the organization runs about 150 legal clinics at 25 shelters and soup kitchens across the city, where staff and volunteers interview clients, assess legal needs, offer advice and referrals, and provide ongoing representation for more complex problems. HAP also conducts educational presentations for shelter residents and service providers to inform them about benefits and services and to help empower people to access those resources. The organization's efforts aim to help homeless individuals obtain shelter, income, and services that support progress toward more secure, stable lives. In 2024, HAP expanded its collaborations by partnering with Philabarfoundation.
