Hord Architects is a second generation architecture firm based in Memphis, Tennessee.  We specialize in Traditional Churches and Private Christian Schools.  Since the firm’s founding in 1957, Hord Architects has designed over 300 church and school projects from New York to Tennessee to Idaho. The firm was founded by Lawrence T. Hord, Jr. and continues today under the leadership of Carter Hord, AIA.  Carter is currently licensed to practice in twelve states and is NCARB certified, allowing for reciprocity in other states. 

Hord Architects has a service approach to architecture.  Our three-part philosophy includes designing architecture which is inspirational, specifically suited to our clients needs, and within budget.  We believe that meaning and content are what separate architecture from mere building. Architecture should in some way transcend utility. 

We believe in producing responsible architecture.  This includes both the process and the product.  The process should be a respectful one in which we treat every team member, from the client’s representative to the final clean-up crew, with the same appreciation and respect.  The product should be a responsible design solution which is respectful of its context and has architectural honesty and integrity. 

The firm’s members and consultants have a very strong work ethic and are committed to excellence.  Architecture is a form of ministry in which we feel called to use our talents in a glorifying manner.
