Training leaders and employees on how to work together is key. Why is it necessary to train employees to work as a team? According to a recent University of Phoenix survey. 64 percent (more than (four-in-five) working adults find working on teams difficult. Of the group who finds teamwork challenging 61 percent (three-in-five) say there is not enough training. (PR BIZ NEWS, October 23, 2013) In most cases there is plenty of talent but communication processes and roles have not been clearly defined. Most employees focus on their individual professional goals to get ahead. Integrating personal goals within a team structure requires skills. At Hornung Creative Consulting & Coaching, we have found that building a team requires a customized approach. No groups of people are alike. Creating a team must involve all the players learning about their strengths and participating in the process of defining the team. Camaraderie and team spirit cannot be mandated, but it can be cultivated. The company culture has to support “team” objectives to cultivate the team. Just like any sports team, the talent has to be used to the team’s advantage. Development training for team building encompasses identifying strengths. According to Gallup poll research utilizing people’s strengths increases their job satisfaction leading to increased productivity. People that are happy in their jobs also stay in their jobs longer reducing turnover.
