Housing Works is a United States–based nonprofit founded in response to the AIDS crisis in New York City, focused on addressing homelessness and health inequities faced by people living with HIV/AIDS. The organization provides an integrated suite of services, including housing support, primary care, meals and nutrition counseling, mental health and substance-use treatment, job training, and legal aid, with the aim of helping clients stabilize their lives. It also operates social enterprises—such as thrift shops and a bookstore café—that reinvest profits back into its mission. Beyond direct services, Housing Works advocates for funding and policy changes to ensure access to housing, healthcare, HIV prevention information, and protections from stigma and discrimination. Since 1990 it has served more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS, emphasizing a community-centered approach and peaceful civil disobedience as a means to advance its goals. A recent development is a partnership with 1stdibs as the nonprofit's sole charitable partner, reflecting collaboration to extend its reach.
