The Hughes company motto of “inspiring customer loyalty through quality customer service” remains as relevant today as when Frank Hughes first founded the business, 95 years ago.

Founded in 1921, Frank bought his first shop, building and selling radios in 1928. After Frank passed away his family continued to run the company. Hughes remains a true family business, with the third generation now at the helm.

Hughes was quick to embrace and introduce new technologies as they developed. By not just selling but also renting, labour-saving appliances & devices became affordable in the post-war austerity years. Expansion followed and by the end of the 20th century Hughes had over 30 shops and 5 service centres. Hughes has continued to grow its retail footprint further; this growth means that Hughes is one of the country's largest specialist electrical retailers and the 2nd largest provider of home entertainment and kitchen appliance rentals. Hughes was delighted to win the 2016 Domestic and General Internet Retailer Of The Year award.

Hughes Trade is the fast growing business supply division of Hughes; the team of knowledgeable advisors, engineers and installers supply kitchen appliances, commercial appliances and audio-visual products to trade and businesses. Their commercial division, was proudly the preferred supplier of kitchen appliances to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Our Smart Home team deals with sound, vision and network installations; offering free in-home visits to discuss the best ways to get customers’ homes ‘smart’ - from wireless sound systems to kitchen appliances. Their aim is to supply and fit these products to the best standard whilst providing you with independent, accurate and relevant advice that suits your needs and budget.
