The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is a mid-sized private nonprofit organization based in Boulder, Colorado, founded in 1902. Its mission is to protect and enhance the lives of companion animals by promoting healthy relationships between pets and people. Each year it shelters and cares for more than 9,000 animals, with about 91 percent adopted or reunited with their guardians. In addition to sheltering and adopting animals, the organization runs a full-service veterinary clinic, the Sonnyside Retail Store, and a Thrift and Gift Shop, alongside behavior modification and foster programs for animals with special needs. Training and behavioral courses reach over 4,000 clients annually, and all services are open to the public while the nonprofit relies on donations rather than funding from national groups or government agencies. In May 2023, it partnered with the Lafayette Police Department to host a low-cost pet vaccination clinic, illustrating collaboration with local public-sector partners.
