The Humane Society of Central Illinois is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates as an animal shelter serving pets since 2006. It originated earlier in Bloomington, Illinois, when the first Pet Adoption Center opened in 1996, and it now serves the central Illinois community from Normal, providing care and housing for animals while seeking permanent homes for those in need. The organization relies on a network of volunteers, donors, and humane investigators, and conducts spay/neuter services for more than a thousand animals each year, either on-site or through local veterinary partnerships. Its work is supported by nominal adoption fees and a broad base of individual, foundation, and corporate contributors, with the aim of reducing stray and unwanted animals and promoting animal welfare in the region.
