The Humane Society of York County is a nonprofit organization focused on animal welfare in the Fort Mill area of South Carolina, operating within the veterinary services sector. Founded in 1976 to address a growing population of animals, HSYC expanded from volunteer care in homes to larger facilities, moving to Fort Mill in 1999 and then to its current site in 2011 with increased capacity. It relies on a combination of a small staff and volunteers to run its rescue program and its PAWSibilities Thrift Shop, and it funds its activities without city, county, or state funding, while not being affiliated with national welfare organizations. The HSYC serves local residents seeking care for animals and those looking to adopt, supported by monetary and in-kind donations, thrift-shop commerce, and volunteers. A recent development includes a 2020 partnership with Insley Photography to offer holiday mini photo sessions, indicating ongoing community engagement.
