Hummert International operates in the horticulture sector as a wholesale supplier and distributor of products and equipment for growing, maintaining, and supporting plant production. The company traces its origins to 1932 when August H. Hummert Sr. started a seed and supplies business in St. Louis, with its first catalog published in 1936. In 1995, the business relocated its headquarters to Earth City, Missouri, and adopted the Hummert International name to reflect an expanded global distribution role.

Today, the firm remains family-oriented with operations in Earth City, Missouri, and Topeka, Kansas, and offers a catalog of more than 32,000 horticulture products serving customers across the United States and exporting to about 70 foreign countries. In March 2025, Hummert International received the CoStar Impact Award for Sale/Acquisition of the Year in the St. Louis market.
